Search for Silence
my eyes half closed
senses heighten
listen for the silence
constant ringing in my ears
train in my head
neighbors upstairs
creaky floor
total silence is impossible
leader speaks melodic tones
mallets on her Bajinn
striking chords
harmonies bounce
through my halo
my hair on end
rhythm enters my third eye
search for silence
I begin at impulse
pure form holds me together
subtle touch without voice
unique mix of time and space
my throat exposed
open to self-care
quell my chaos
embrace the silence within

The Sound of One Card Shuffling
Among the others in the deck, a card holds a place
Interface
Away from the deck, it creates subtle connections
Stare into the card with precise intentions
Abstractions
Flow from behind your eyes to the unknown
Invite the ancestors to be your guests
Join your quest
They accept but ask for something in return
Care for the least in water, sky, and land
They demand
Help the ones who need your help the most
Be kind and generous to young and old
Forever bold
Ingrained into your psyche
The portal the card had opened begins to close
Messages slow
The card takes its place within the deck
The sound of one card shuffling is a poem
Take you home
Your family of cards is writing a book

Silence, Deep
When twilight comes, and shadows sweep
a bat in flight, a swish of wings
can you hear in silence, deep?
Breezes soft as willows weep
insect songs vibrate like strings
when twilight comes, and shadows sweep.
Silence cross the field will sweep
gurgles from the local springs
can you hear in silence, deep?
Nature’s quiet, not asleep
swallows swoop, their hearts sing
when twilight comes, and shadows sweep.
Late skies darken, secrets keep
dance of stars above begins
can you hear in silence, deep?
Silence brims on gliding leaps
close your eyes, a gift it brings.
When twilight comes and shadows sweep,
can you hear in silence, deep?
