Share your joy.

submission details for coalitionist.

Coalitionist is a nonfiction mixed bag and a brand new sister publication of coalitionworks literary journal.

This newsletter publication welcomes uplifting short nonfiction/essays about the following prompts:

  • CAT PEOPLE STUFF: Send short nonfiction about your cat. Send a cat photo too! Joy.
  • A SUNPATCH. Stuff that affirms the good in the world. A comforting memory. Creature comforts, quality of life stuff. When someone took care of you. The little big joys that brighten your day when cataclysm comes knocking. Togetherness.
  • FORMATIVE STUFF (Your foundational media). The time you discovered that seminal book, music album, or movie that rocked your world. Gratuitous nostalgia. Rose-tinted all you want. Core memory stuff. Inspiration.
  • BIPOC SHORT NONFICTION is always welcome, especially Spanish to English translations.

Once accepted, authors can send in audio readings of their work!

Nonfiction, essays, memories, and CNF under 1500 words. Photography is also welcome!

Coalitionist also welcomes short nonfiction/essays previously published in defunct lit journals and personal blogs. The shorter, the better.

Why the mixed bag, you ask?

Because the brutality of the world can be overwhelming, and at this time, I yearn for levity and togetherness. Coalitionist is a reflection of that simple plea. I think about the aforementioned prompts all the time. There’s plenty of heartbreak in the world, but human beings have it in them to remind each other what hope looks like. Coalitionist is a heartfelt place for simple joys that don’t need to justify themselves. The little big joys. The sunpatches in dark weather. Let’s keep cynicism at bay by gathering around the things that matter: Hope, joy, and togetherness. And cats too. All the cats!

This project is about humans and human expression straight from the source, please don’t submit work created with AI. You’re better than that.

No reading fees and no compensation at this time.

Much love,

j

Thank you so much for the joy, comfort, and companionship you brought us all these years. Though skies turn gray now and again, we promise to keep looking for patches of sunlight in your stead.
