Lynchpins | Brian Michael Barbeito

David Lynch, a seeker.

I was always watching what projects he did because he was cool. I had a magazine in the 1990’s I think it was, that I kept for a long time, where he was on the cover and the words about the article or interview with him said, Why He Will Never Go Above Ground Again, meaning he was built for the off-mainstream arts. I read that as a big compliment to him. I wish I still had that magazine. Another amazing thing was a documentary I watched about him where he spoke so frankly about his life and artistic process and said he hated everything about school. I loved his honesty and identified with this, because I also hated school. A third thing I admired about him was that he was very into meditation and talked about Transcendental Meditation. He was in a way a seeker. I am an indie film fan all the way, and when I learned he was gone it with sadness. I don’t know anyone in the film industry and probably never will, so he was interesting to watch from afar. One of the cool and talented guys like Jim Jarmusch, Gus Van Sant, Mike Leigh, and Terry Gilliam. R.I.P. David Lynch.
