CW12 welcomes submissions, and here’s an audio thing I recorded about the coalition.

hi there. it’s jaime alejandro.

i am delighted to inform you i will be reading submissions for the next issue of coalitionworks until June 15th. stop by the ‘join us‘ page for additional submission information and links.

if you would like to get a better sense of what the coalition is about, i recorded this today on my lunch break. i was driving and i felt like talking to myself. and you, i suppose. i’d like to share three quotes that guide the direction of the coalition. i have included them below the recording.

also, I’m quite certain this is a deeply unserious publication, so if you do submit stuff, don’t be afraid to get ridiculous. lastly, in recompense for pedigree, the coalition offers heart, gratitude, and a humble gathering of cosmic expression to all of you present and future coalitionists.

anyway, here’s a rant for you. all the best and happy writing.

3 QUOTES

Martin Esslin (Theatre of the Absurd, 1965):

“. . . It is a challenge to accept the human condition as it is, in all its mystery and absurdity, and to bear it with dignity, nobly, responsibly; precisely because there are no easy solutions to the mysteries of existence, because ultimately man is alone in a meaningless world. The shedding of easy solutions, of comforting illusions, may be painful, but it leaves behind it a sense of freedom and relief. And that is why, in the last resort, the Theatre of the Absurd does not provoke tears of despair but the laughter of liberation.”

Tom Waits (2004):

“This is what’s wrong with the world. Everything is explained now. We live in an age when you say casually to somebody ‘What’s the story on that?’ and they can run to the computer and tell you within five seconds. That’s fine, but sometimes I’d just as soon continue wondering. We have a deficit of wonder right now.”

Kurt Vonnegut (from a PBS interview by David Brancaccio, 2005):

(When Vonnegut tells his wife he’s going out to buy an envelope) Oh, she says, well, you’re not a poor man. You know, why don’t you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I’m going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babes. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And, and ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don’t know. The moral of the story is, is we’re here on Earth to fart around. And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don’t realize, or they don’t care, is we’re dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. And, we’re not supposed to dance at all anymore.”

That’s it.
