New audio readings website from JP Lor!

Questions with an Indie Author

We’d like to extend a shoutout and huge congratulations to coalitionist JP Lor (CW3) on the release of the new website, jplorwrites.org! A new place for JP’s audio readings!

What has the recording experience been like?

At first, it was mistake after mistake – stuttering, blanking out, mispronouncing words, cats knocking things over (this still happens), etc. It was challenging and felt weird at times, like I was a different person reading my stories. The first one I recorded, “The Thing About Soulmates,” took over sixty takes. However, it got easier once I learned to be mindful of when to slow down and speed up while emphasizing certain words. Now, I use it as an editing tool to hear the beat of my sentences.

What’s a good story to start with?

Maybe Doughnuts and Foggy Windows, just because of the absurdity. It was fun channeling a homeless gambler and wise monk.

What are you currently listening to or reading right now that is inspiring you?

Ocean Vuong’s On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous! I haven’t felt this way about a book in a long time. It has inspired me to write literary fiction and poetry.

Thanks so much for being a part of coalitionworks JP, and again: congratulations on your new website!
